English Media in Indonesia

There are not many English-speaking media (newspapers, magazine, portal) in Indonesia. In fact, they are very few compared, for example, to its neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

Among the below mentioned, only The Jakarta Post and The Jakarta Globe which have its print version.

Most Indonesians actually learn English since Class V. They understand English, at least the grammar. Since English language is not the lingua franca (bahasa pengantar) in most Indonesian school, rather it is just one of subject among many other subjects in the class, they don’t speak it. That’s why, no publishers ever have the gut to publish any newspapers in English.

The following list of Indonesia media in English below is to tell non-Indonesians that if they want to know the latest news about Indonesia, they know where to go. Or if this list is not enough, they can go through Google News on Indonesia (in English) which come from various foreign media publication.

1. The Jakarta Post
2. The Jakarta Globe
3. Antara Indonesia News Agency (English version)
4. Kompas.com (English version)
5. The Bali Times
6. Vivanews.com (English version)
7. Tempo Interactive (English version)
8. Inside Indonesia (Published from Australia)
9. Google News on Indonesia (from various sources)

Let me know, via the comment box, if you find out other English speaking media in Indonesia other than those already mentioned.
